SGARN was created to support children to feel emotionally safe, calm and confident in and around water.

Learning to swim is not just a physical skill. For many children, it is deeply emotional. Fear, uncertainty and big feelings can sit alongside the learning process, especially for children who are sensitive, cautious or take longer to feel safe.

SGARN stories were written to gently support that emotional side of learning, alongside clear and age appropriate water safety messages.

An informed and gentle approach

SGARN is informed by 10 years of experience in swim teaching and 18 years of parenting.

The stories are written to complement swimming lessons and therapeutic supports, not replace them. They are designed to be accessible, inclusive and grounded in real world water safety practices, while remaining warm, imaginative and story led.

What guides our work

At the heart of SGARN is a belief that:

  • children learn at their own pace
  • emotional safety comes before skill mastery
  • calm, trusted adults make the biggest difference
  • stories can be a powerful way to learn and feel safe

Every SGARN story is created with care, respect for children's experiences and a strong connection to Australian environments.

SGARN is growing gently, one story at a time.
